avrgbbs (average babies) is the interdisciplinary practice of Canadian design partners Mischa Perelmuter (they/them) & Julia Payton (she/her), based in London, UK. we are currently completing the MA Art & Ecology (23/24) at Goldsmiths and have a bDes from toronto metropolitan university (2018) .

Our practice explores making as conjuring, a magical practice for queer becoming. In other words, we see communal making as a strategy for nurturing skills that encourage community. Our research with collaborative making manifests as garments, publications, writing and images.

Coming from a fashion background, we’ve grown immense concern for how our practice impacts the planet and the multitude of life that inhabits it. Consumed by the destructive system through which the fashion industry operates, our practice has shifted to challenging normative systems of design while exploring alternative and collaborative methods of craft & making.
